Autumn interior design - tips for a more homely autumn

In the late summer when fall is around the corner, it's time to settle in and create a cozy feeling at home so you can spend more time indoors without feeling cooped up. With lit candles and warm blankets, you can cozy up at home when it's gray and overcast outside and with our tips you can create a warmer feeling at home that will hopefully help you avoid the fall and winter doldrums.

During the darker seasons, it is always smart to decorate with a focus on joy and warmth. It's dark and cold outside and it should feel good to come home to your apartment, so you can gather your strength and recover from a long day without sunshine. Many people associate autumn interior design with strong colors in contrast with bright blankets and throws combined with many light sources that illuminate the home and give you energy.

Blankets have become a must in every home

Plaids today come in all sorts of shapes, materials and colors. You can find a throw in your favorite color or a color that matches your decor perfectly. It can be smart to have a whole pile of throws in different materials so that you can use the colorful materials as interior details while the lighter, happier throws can keep you warm during chilly evenings on the TV couch. The blanket works just as well as a trendy decoration at the foot of the bed as it does on the sofa.

Whether you like fluffy faux fur throws or cotton throws in rich tones, you can find plenty of options both online and in your local home improvement store. Throws have become such a common interior detail that they are also sold in DIY stores and discount chains. One tip is to combine really luxurious throws in soft materials with regular throws that you don't have to be as careful with. A blanket is also great to have in bed if you are a bit cold and need an extra blanket. Cozy up your bedroom

Something that often happens during fall and winter is that we spend more time in the bedroom. Movie night is moved from the TV couch to the bed with a computer or tablet and we like to have a cup of tea and read a book in bed instead of going out on the town. That's why it's great to decorate the bedroom for fall with a little extra focus on coziness and calm.

Do you already have an interior design style that you want to expand or are you starting from scratch? If you just want to make your existing decor more cozy, get a couple of fluffy faux fur pillows, a rya rug on the floor, and light a scented candle on your bedside table.

If you have just moved in and are decorating from step 1, you have many more choices. Start by choosing a theme for your bedroom. Many times, the same theme is used throughout the apartment, but this is not a must and if your bedroom is a private part of your home, you can practically decorate it any way you want, whether it matches or goes against the rest of the apartment.

The bed is obviously the central part of your bedroom. Besides the bed, it's always good to have at least one other seating area such as a comfortable armchair or a long bench by the window with soft cushions to lean on. Hang photos or art that help you relax or remind you of happy memories so that you are surrounded by positivity. The blankets we already mentioned play a big role in making the bedroom extra cozy, especially on cold autumn nights.

Trendy lamps brighten up the autumn darkness

As fall is a dark and gloomy time of year, it's also a time when your home lights are particularly important. Every room has a ceiling lamp for light, but by getting several light sources that illuminate the room from different directions, you can create a completely different feeling in a room. Try it yourself, put a floor lamp and a table lamp in the same room and turn them on and off to see how the atmosphere of the room changes depending on where the light comes from.

You can install LED light strips on the ceiling or on a wall to create a light in the room that is not possible with traditional lamps. Many LED lights can also change color, allowing you to choose exactly the color tone of the room that suits your mood. Floor lamps aimed at the ceiling spread the light through the room in a completely different way to the ceiling lamp, and if you've created a small reading corner in your bedroom, it's always handy to have a reading lamp that makes it easier to focus on your book.

Setting the mood in the kitchen

Do you have a large kitchen table that sits empty when you're not eating? Then you have an opportunity to turn your dining area into a vital part of your interior design, especially during the fall and winter months. When you think of autumn, winter and darkness, you usually think of candles and a colorful tablecloth. Decorate the table with a lantern and a large candle, or a candle holder with several long candles in a color that matches the rest of your kitchen. Get a tablecloth in a color that is in direct contrast with the color of the table.

Add a bit of nature in the form of a green plant or a small bouquet of flowers and you've transformed your rigid dining table into something that feels inviting and joyful. Hang a ceiling light with a warm glow low above the table to draw even more attention to your decoration. Wood and earthy colors

An interior style that is perfect for autumn is the combination of earthy colors and wooden furniture or decoration. A wooden bowl with dark red rose petals on a beige canvas is a classic color combination that is perfect for autumn. Dark gray towels hanging on wooden hooks in the bathroom is also something that always looks good.

A pair of dark natural wood frames with black and white photos looks stylish and can make a blank white wall feel complete and give your home a more pleasant tone. Your home may already be decorated with colorful tones and a focus on glossy materials, but even in this case, a small detail in natural wood can bring your entire decor together by creating a small contrast that makes the rest of the home look like a perfect combination of style and fashion.
